Kariuki Wa Nyamu

I am Kariuki wa Nyamu. I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Literature in the Department of Literature, Linguistics and Foreign Languages. As a research student, the department has exposed me to a vast array of course work units on the changing trends in literary studies. They include: Stylistics, African American Literature, Modern African Literature, Children’s Literature, Women in Literature, Creative Writing, Theatre Arts as well as Literature from Europe, Asia, Caribbean and Latin America. The advanced knowledge learnt has given me a distinct advantage to work in the Media on a part-time basis besides full-time teaching. I have also managed to establish significant links with publishers and film makers. Notably, my literary work has been published extensively both in print and online. In 2017, I beat 16 able contenders from across Africa to clinch be Winner of the Babishai Haiku Poetry Prize. My published book is When Children Dare to Dream: An Anthology of Children’s Short Stories and Poetry (2017), it is a result of my literature training in K.U. The print books, journals and electronic materials in the departmental Resource Centre demystify research. Research students here embrace teamwork particularly in seminars, discussions and class presentations. In addition, our highly competent lecturers and professors offer us apt tutelage and mentorship. They compare well with those who taught me at Makerere University in Uganda where I earned my undergraduate degree. They are approachable, resourceful and committed towards quality teaching and timely research supervision. One is sure of completion of studies in this department under its visionary chairperson.
