FRENCH FOR BEGINNERS COURSE

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

AFB 001:    FRENCH FOR BEGINNERS 1

French and Francophone world; the alphabet in French and French sounds; Introducing oneself and others, basic description of people, one’s environment and daily activities; Simple sentences in the present tense in both the affirmative and negative; parts of speech: nouns and articles with respect to gender and number, personal pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, adjectives; use of ‘Voici, voilà, il y a and, c'est’; conjugation of  regular verbs and of ’être’ and ‘avoir’ in the present tense, greetings, wishes, feelings, likes and dislikes, and comments on and reactions to various  day to day happenings and experiences.

 

AFB 002:    FRENCH FOR BEGINNERS 2        

Short comprehension texts in French such as advertisements, documentaries, and events and experiences; French sounds in various contexts, stress and intonation; Short write-ups  such as friendly letters, notes, e-mails, invitation cards, daily and weekly programmes, questionnaires and forms; Conjugation of  irregular verbs in the present, simple past and past continuous tenses; transformation of  sentences  in the passive and active voices , negation and verb-subject inversion; use of  relative pronouns and connectors  in compound sentences and tense agreement.                

           

AFB 003:    FRENCH FOR BEGINNERS 3

Short poems and stories to enhance comprehension and pronunciation; invitations, offers, appointments, interviews, official letters and Curriculum Vitae; enquiries and explanations about one’s opinion, routine activities, directions, purchases, traveling and procedures such as  recipes and manuals; vocabulary related to shops, hotels and restaurants, offices, hospitals, travel points and recreational facilities; the present, past and future tenses: relative pronouns, connectors and adverbials of time, place  and manner; the conditional and imperative modes; description and comparison of places, goods and services.
