Dr. J. K. S. Makokha delivered a lecture to the English Department of Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women's University in Mumbai, India on 28th June, 2018. He later paid a courtesy call to Prof. Shashikila Wanjari, the Vice Chancellor of the university. The Vice Chancellor stressed the need for interlinkages and interlocutions between Indian and Kenyan universities citing the ongoing South-South paradigm of interdisciplinary studies. Dr. Makokha heads the Seminars and Presentations Committee of the Department of Literature, Kenyatta University. The topic of his lecture was “Aesthetic Roots of Literatures of East Africa.”

The department of literature held a party to bid farewell to the former DVC, Administration, Prof. Wangari Mwai who was a dedicated member of the department. The party also served as a forum to celebrate the acquisition of PhD's by three members of the department, namely Dr. Anna Kula Miti, Dr. Ann Okungu and Dr. Kariuki Banda.
KU masters students taking the ALT808:Creative Writing course had a chance to listen to a presentation by Mr. Lucas Wafula of East African Educational Publishers, the leading publisher in the region. The presentation focussed on the writing and publishing process. This was one of the initiatives of the department of literature intended to link the departmental programmes to industry.
